The Utility Stores Corporation of Pakistan (USC) has reduced sugar price by Rs 3 per kg at its all outlets across the country as compared the open market in order to provide relief to the people. The Spokesman of the Corporation told APP here on Thursday that sugar prices were reduced from Rs 48 per kg and fixed at Rs 45 per kg as the commodity was being sold at Rs 50-52 per kg in the open market. The USC has directed its all regional headquarters to implement the decision immediately on the existing stocks of sugar lying in the stores across the country.

He further informed that abundant stocks of sugar are available in Utility Stores outlets across the country as all the store outlets were provided sugar as they are required to keep the supply on smooth mode. The spokesman further said that USC is also preparing a mechanism to bring down the prices of other essential commodities including ghee, cooking oil, flour and pluses of different varieties to give more relief to the people. He said that the Corporation is striving to provide quality of daily-use items on affordable rates through USC outlets across the country and planning to further expend its outreach to more areas. It may be recalled that bumper sugar output expected this year besides a huge quantity of the last year's produce is also lying with the local sugar mills. The Economic Co-ordination Committee of Cabinet has also allowed the sugar mills to export sugar where as sugar cane crushing is in full swing to produce the commodity for domestic requirements as well as for exports.
